Therapies Overview

Ramsay Clinic Northside offers a comprehensive approach to mental health care, combining evidence-based therapies with the expertise of our psychiatrists and psychologists. Whether you receive inpatient or outpatient treatment, psychological therapies are likely to be a part of your treatment plan.

Psychological Therapies:

  • Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT): CBT helps you identify and change negative thought patterns that contribute to your mood and behaviour. You'll learn skills to manage stress, improve communication, and develop healthier coping mechanisms.
  • Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT): DBT focuses on emotional regulation, distress tolerance, mindfulness, and interpersonal effectiveness. It's particularly helpful for individuals struggling with intense emotions and damaging coping behaviours.
  • Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT): ACT helps you identify your core values and live a meaningful life, even when experiencing symptoms. You'll learn mindfulness and acceptance skills to manage difficult thoughts and feelings.
  • Art Therapy: Art therapy provides a safe space for self-expression and exploration of emotions through creating art. It can benefit those who find verbal communication difficult.

Who Can Benefit from Psychological Group Therapies?

Psychological group therapies can be beneficial for a wide range of mental health conditions, including:

  • Anxiety disorders
  • Depression
  • Bipolar disorder
  • Post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD)
  • Personality disorders

Neurostimulation Services:

In addition to psychological therapies, Ramsay Clinic Northside offers neurostimulation treatments for severe mental health conditions.

  • Electroconvulsive Therapy (ECT): A safe and effective medical procedure performed under general anaesthesia to treat severe depression and mania. It involves delivering brief electrical currents to the brain to induce a seizure, improving symptoms when other treatments haven't been successful.
  • repetitive Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (rTMS): A non-invasive form of neurostimulation using magnetic fields to stimulate targeted brain areas for mood regulation. rTMS is effective for treating depression and other conditions in adults, with no anaesthesia or medication required. Our rTMS service is provided on site with a provider partner.

A referral from your GP and thorough evaluation by a psychiatrist is required before considering neurostimulation services to determine if it's the most suitable treatment option for you.

Medication-Assisted Psychotherapy & Interventional Psychiatric Treatments

Under the leadership of the Interventional Team’s Medical Director Professor Colleen Loo, we provide a comprehensive range of neurostimulation services and innovative interventional treatments, including psychedelic medicines, some of which are also used as dissociative anaesthetics.

These therapies have been shown to offer promising results for individuals suffering from conditions such as treatment-resistant depression and post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD).

Your Care Team

Prof Coleen Loo is known for her groundbreaking research in electroconvulsive therapy (ECT), transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS), and ketamine treatments. She continues to advance research in these areas, including the use of psychedelic-assisted therapy.

We are committed to staying at the forefront of mental health treatment advancements and offering our patients access to the latest evidence-based therapies.
