How to get a referral

To access Ramsay Mental Health clinics you need to get a referral, which comes from your General Practitioner (GP).

You don’t need a referral to see a psychologist with us but, if you wish to claim part of the cost of psychology services on Medicare, you will need a Mental Health Care Plan from your GP.

Call us now to find out about availability

For accurate wait times, call your local clinic. You can find your preferred clinic using our search tool.

Once you have spoken to your GP about your mental health needs, they will create a referral document for you, which they then send to us. The referral document communicates your symptoms and a suggested treatment program and often a preferred psychiatrist.

You will need to obtain a referral letter from your GP before you access Ramsay Mental Health clinics.

This will also give you access to Medicare MBS rebates for your psychiatry consultations as well as for your health fund rebates if you become an inpatient.

If you are accessing psychology services you don’t need a referral, however, if you wish to receive Medicare rebates using a Mental Health Care Plan it is necessary.
